Plot summary
Canary is queen of the Ragnicks, traveling entertainers who treasure a magic ruby as their lucky jewel. The tyrant Kadar wants both the queen and the stone, and he falls upon the tribe. Canary is carried off, and though the ruby eludes him, Kutchek and Gore, two boys of the tribe, are seized as well after biting off two of the tyrant's fingers. Kadar promises to spare the boys if Canary becomes his bride.
