Plot summary
Walter Ballantine is serving time in the Streiger Institute, a privately run penitentiary, when his former partner Al Karp arranges his escape. Karp has a target: a bank that operates out of a trailer while its new premises are under construction. Ballantine resists, since the last job Karp brought him landed him in jail, and he dislikes two members of the crew. Victor, Karp's nephew, once worked for the FBI but has no grasp of the work; Eleonora, who finances the operation, is drawn to Ballantine. At the site Ballantine rules out a holdup, as the getaway is poor, and a break-in, as the money lies behind a safe that is difficult to crack and four guards watch it. He proposes stealing the entire bank instead.
