Plot summary
In 1917 the United States Army posts the 24th Infantry Regiment, an African American unit also known as the Buffalo Soldiers, to Houston, Texas. Its soldiers include Corporal William Boston, Big Joe, Walker and Franklin, and Sergeant Hayes and Sergeant Clinton serve in the regiment as well. In Houston, an all-white police force and the city's white residents subject the men to racial discrimination. That treatment is constant, and it takes the form of brutal violence and abuse dealt out by Houston police officers. The military service of the men of the 24th earns them no exemption from any of it.
