Plot summary
Spencer Stone and Alek Skarlatos bond at a Christian middle school over militaria and often land in trouble with teachers and the principal, where they meet Anthony Sadler, another student being disciplined. The three become friends. Spencer and Alek are raised by single mothers who defend them in the principal's office. Grown up, Spencer enlists in the Air Force after training, sits exams for pararescue school, and is turned down over poor depth perception; Alek joins the National Guard. Spencer persuades Anthony, a college student, to vacation with him in Europe.
