Plot summary
The Cavalcade of Stars is a wartime charity revue that two theater producers are trying to assemble, and the singer Dinah Shore is on their wish list. She is under contract to radio star Eddie Cantor, who will let her perform only if he is given control of the benefit committee. In that post, his own ideas for the evening complicate the producers' work. Meanwhile, an aspiring singer named Tommy Randolph and his girlfriend, the songwriter Pat Dixon, look for a way into the program. They know Joe Simpson, a tour bus driver whose close resemblance to Cantor has kept him out of acting jobs.

- The finale was shot with much of the cast together on stage, but special effects place five acts, Errol Flynn, Ann Sheridan, Bette Davis, the Jack Carson and Alan Hale Sr. duo, and the trio of Olivia de Havilland, Ida Lupino and George Tobias, over their glitter-covered stars.
- Olivia de Havilland said she added over-the-top gum chewing to her musical act so that the lip-synching would work.
