Plot summary
Duane Jackson owes twelve million dollars and his oil company is close to bankruptcy. His wife Karla drinks too much, and his children are always in trouble. Jacy Farrow, once homecoming queen, comes back to their Texas town after an acting career, years in Italy and the death of her son. People assume she and Duane will take up their high school romance. Ruth Popper is Duane's secretary, Lester Marlow runs the bank, and Sonny Crawford's erratic behavior worries Duane.

- Timothy Bottoms only agreed to make Texasville after Nelson Entertainment financed a $100,000 documentary of his about the making of the film; he said he did not want to do the movie because he did not like any of the people in it.
- Jeff Bridges put on 35 pounds to play Duane Jackson, getting his weight up to about 210, because he needed the weight for the age factor and for the shape the character would be in.
- The Last Picture Show had cost $1.3 million, while for the sequel Cybill Shepherd was paid $1.5 million and Jeff Bridges $1.75 million.
- Annie Potts was shooting episodes of Designing Women during the Texasville shoot and had to commute from Los Angeles to the location every week.
- Larry McMurtry said he and Peter Bogdanovich had various loud fallings-out during the making of the movie and did not talk again until the premiere of The Evening Star.
