Plot summary
A shipwreck leaves William Fitzgerald the only survivor, and he washes up on Blood Island, where Dr. Charles Girard finds him. Girard has built a laboratory on the remote island, and his wife Frances and his assistant Walter Perrera live there with him. The natives fear the scientist because of what he does in that laboratory. For a long time he has been operating on a panther, surgically turning it into a creature that is half man and half panther, and the animal sometimes gets free of its cage. Bandages cover the beast, though its cat-like eyes and ears still show. Frances alone pities it, and the creature is drawn to her.
