Richard Derr
Biography
Richard Derr was an American actor who moved between stage, film, and television, playing leads as well as supporting parts. He grew up in Norristown, Pennsylvania, where he acted with a small theater group while working as a bank clerk. A member of the Actors Studio, he took leading parts in Broadway dramas and sang the lead in Plain and Fancy in 1955. In film he worked mostly as a character actor, but he starred in When Worlds Collide (1951), George Pal's science fiction picture for Paramount, and later headlined The Invisible Avenger (1958), drawn from the Shadow radio and pulp character. During World War II he spent three years with the Army Transport Service. Television supplied most of his work in the 1950s; he hosted the NBC anthology Fanfare in 1959 and appeared on Armstrong Circle Theatre. In 1965 he played Dr. Dwyer in a three-part Disney serial. He died in 1992.
