Temple (2017) on Netflix

Plot summary

Kate studies comparative religion and invites her friend Chris, who is grieving his brother and speaks some Japanese, to join her and her boyfriend James on a research trip to Japan. In a bookstore Kate finds a folklore book showing a temple, but the owner refuses to sell it and shuts the shop. Chris comes back later and buys it from a boy named Seita. A man in a bar tells him the temple lies nearby and is said to be haunted, and the bartender points him toward a village beside it, though both warn him off. Kate is eager to go; James is not. At an inn Seita offers to guide them there the next day.
