Plot summary
In December 1945, five veterans and lifelong friends gather for cocktails in a Brooklyn brownstone. Marla Sheridan, Archie Stanton and Paul DiFranco come to the Park Slope home of Clive Hockstatter, their former commander; Marla brings her husband Bob, a Pentagon clerk the others dislike because he never saw combat. Hock is mourning his wife Susan, who killed herself after no one believed her claims that a German neighbor was a spy. He has lost his faith in organized religion and turned to spiritualism, and he hopes to reach her from the other side, so he asks his friends to hold an impromptu séance with him.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Writer-director Ted Geoghegan expanded a short séance sequence from his 2015 film We Are Still Here into Brooklyn 45, then spent months working out the plot with his late father, a quadriplegic Air Force veteran turned U.S. History teacher, to keep it historically and militarily accurate. The screenplay was finished in January 2019 and his father died shortly after.
- More than one hundred antique photos that dress the walls of the film's parlor were donated by friends and family after the filmmaker put out a call for them on social media.
