Plot summary
Julieta lives in Madrid, where she is preparing to move to Portugal with Lorenzo, her boyfriend. A chance encounter with Beatriz, a childhood friend of her daughter Antía, brings the news that Antía is in Switzerland with three children. Julieta has not seen her daughter for years, so she gives up the journey and takes an apartment in the same Madrid building where she raised Antía, the one address Antía would know. She keeps a journal, setting down the events that separated them. She writes of the train where she met Xoan, a Galician fisherman whose wife lies in a coma, and of the letter from him that followed. When she visits, his wife has died and Ava is with him. Julieta and Xoan take up their relationship, and she tells him she is carrying his child.
