Plot summary
Dvir is soon to turn thirteen and lives with Miri, his mother, on a progressive 1970s kibbutz whose residents take pride in their open-mindedness. That openness does not extend to Miri, who has been a patient in a mental hospital more than once and whose instability is more than most of them want to deal with, so Dvir looks after her, with help from Eyal, his older brother. Miri persuades Stephan, her Swiss boyfriend, to come to the kibbutz, though he is not Jewish and the other residents do not welcome him. In the meantime Dvir prepares for his bar mitzvah, which the kibbutz combines with survival training, and develops a crush on Maya, a girl his age who arrives from France.
