Plot summary
Libby is thirteen and has lived for years in the United States with her mother. She is sent to Israel to stay with Shaul, her estranged father, an inventor who is currently without an apartment of his own. War breaks out between Israel and Lebanon around the time she arrives. Shaul tells a wealthy family in Jerusalem that he and his daughter are refugees from northern Israel, and the family, wanting to help fellow citizens, takes them in. In that household Libby finds ordinary daily life, and she and Shaul begin to build their relationship as father and daughter. Libby must also carry the lies she tells now and those told to her since childhood.
