Plot summary

Zaza works toward a doctorate at Tel Aviv University while his parents, Yasha and Lili, look for a wife for him. Their Georgian Jewish community expects a bride who is young, from a good family and has never married, and the three of them visit Ilana, 17 and still in high school, as one candidate. Nothing is settled. Zaza goes along with these introductions, having sat through roughly a hundred of them. His parents do not know about Judith, the woman he is involved with. She is 34, divorced, and raising a six-year-old daughter, Madona; she is also older than Zaza, which makes her unsuitable to Yasha and Lili. Judith, for her part, tries to keep the relationship from her daughter.
