Plot summary

During the summer of 1969, the Harlem Cultural Festival filled Mount Morris Park, the Harlem site now called Marcus Garvey Park, for six weeks. More than 300,000 people came for jazz, blues, rhythm and blues, soul and funk, in an event that celebrated African American music, culture and fashion and promoted Black pride and unity during a time of unrest. The festival ran the same summer as Woodstock, about one hundred miles south of it. Cameras recorded the concerts, but the footage was stored in a basement and stayed out of public view for over fifty years, leaving the event largely forgotten.
