- Casting the role of Lucien was harder than the lead: director Joren Molter found no casting agencies willing to take on people with disabilities. He found Joël in 't Veld, a boy with physical spasms but no intellectual disability, on the internet, which made him easy to direct as an actor.
- For the main role of Brian, director Joren Molter found no suitable candidate in the Netherlands, so he went looking in Belgium and cast the young actor Jarne Heylen.
