Plot summary
Irma Roeters and Olga van Heemst are dancers in Amsterdam in the 1970s, where the ballet world sets hard demands. The two are best friends. Olga has an exceptional talent and a presence that carries her ahead of Irma: she stands out even in the smallest roles, is quickly made a soloist and becomes an audience favorite and a star before her twentieth birthday. To fit the strict rules the ballet applies to a dancer's body, Olga loses more and more weight, and Irma watches her friend give way under the pressure to perform and lose herself in the nightlife.
