Biography

Nile Rodgers is an American guitarist and record producer who co-founded Chic with bassist Bernard Edwards and was later named by Billboard as the world's number one singles producer. Born in New York City, he worked as a touring musician before Chic's self-titled debut appeared in 1977. The albums C'est Chic and Risqué followed, and Rodgers also wrote and produced songs for Sister Sledge and Diana Ross. After Chic broke up he produced records for David Bowie, Madonna and Duran Duran. Daft Punk's Random Access Memories earned him three Grammy Awards in 2014, and Beyoncé's Renaissance brought two more in 2023. A Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, he entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame through its Award for Musical Excellence, and he has appeared in documentaries about Avicii and Studio 54.
