Plot summary

A phone call in the night tells Sebastián that his father was in an accident, and the funeral follows in the local cemetery. His mother does not intend to mourn for long and goes out to dine with friends he does not know. Sebastián had known his father was dead before his brother could tell him, and he was born with a strange condition of the skin, a kind of veil. At school he turns down Marta, who wanted to go out with him, and another boy takes his place. He sees his mother kiss another man. Over lunch with Angie and her grandmother Olga he is proclaimed a psychic, though his brother Joe does not believe it; Olga says she has met him before, which cannot be true, and the house stands on an old cemetery.
