Plot summary
Tandy, Meredith and several others, among them an Oldtimer, a Broker and a Longshoreman, come to in a steambath they cannot leave. Nobody explains how they arrived or what the room is for. An attendant moves among them, gathering up towels. The bathers pass the time telling their stories, and the room is a form of afterlife, with the attendant as God, hearing out souls indifferent to their own situation.
