Biography

Peter Kastner was a Canadian actor who found early prominence as a young leading man in films of the 1960s. Born in Toronto, he took his first leading role in the 1964 film Nobody Waved Good-bye, a semi-improvised study of middle-class teenagers that became a surprise hit and was honored at several film festivals. His breakthrough came in the title role of Francis Ford Coppola's comedy You're a Big Boy Now (1966), playing a young man who leaves home for New York City; the part earned him a BAFTA nomination as Most Promising Newcomer to Leading Film Roles. He played a similar figure in B.S. I Love You in 1971 and starred in the short-lived sitcoms The Ugliest Girl in Town and Custard Pie. As leading roles grew scarce he moved into supporting work, and his last film was Unfinished Business (1984). He later taught high school in Massachusetts.
