Plot summary
A mysterious signal has driven the world toward its end. Aubrey is grieving for her close friend Grace and is squatting in Grace's old house. She sleeps there, has strange dreams, and wakes to alien creatures attacking her small town. Over a walkie-talkie, a stranger tells her that a signal Grace found set everything off. In the house Aubrey also finds cassette tapes with messages from Grace, who says she hid the rest of them. Cryptic visions lead Aubrey to a grocery store, a library and a cinema as she searches for the remaining tapes. While she looks, she has to avoid aggressive aliens and mutated humans.

- Director A.T. White wrote the screenplay for Starfish as a reaction to going through a divorce and to his best friend dying of cancer, so the film's story of grief grew out of his own life.
- White's move into filmmaking began when he saw a FrightFest screening of Monsters and met its director, Gareth Edwards, who encouraged him to shoot a short film on a digital camera; Edwards is thanked in Starfish's credits.
