Plot summary
Pepe is a pimp in Los Angeles who sells maps to the stars' homes as a cover for his business, and he wants his son Carlos working as one of his boys. Carlos is eighteen and has come back from five years in Mexico, set on becoming a movie star. He takes the work because hustling can put him in front of people in Hollywood, and he means to do it only until he gets a start. His father is overbearing and his mother mentally unstable.

- Eleven months after principal photography began, director Miguel Arteta wanted re-shoots to make the plot of Star Maps more coherent, but many of his friends would not return his calls. He paid for the re-shoots with money set aside for post-production.
