Herbert Siguenza

Biography

Herbert Siguenza is an American actor, writer and visual artist who co-founded the Chicano theater troupe Culture Clash in 1984. Born in San Francisco, he studied printmaking and worked for a decade as art director at La Raza Silkscreen Center before moving into performing arts with Teatro Gusto. With Culture Clash he toured the country in satirical shows built around social commentary, and he has also written and performed solo pieces including My Weekend with Pablo Picasso and Cantinflas. His play El Henry, an adaptation of Shakespeare's Henry IV, was staged at the La Jolla Playhouse in 2014 and won the Best New Play award from the San Diego Critics Circle. He later held a playwright residency at the San Diego Rep. For Pixar's Coco (2017) he was a cultural consultant and voiced the characters Tío Felipe and Oscar.

First role
Sigüenza started acting in 1984, when he and Ric Salinas, Richard Montoya, José Antonio Burciaga, Marga Gómez, and Monica Palacios founded Culture Clash. The group traveled the country doing Chicano theater, using satire for social commentary.
