Plot summary
A young woman with agoraphobia keeps to her New York City apartment and has seen no one for over a year. She fills her days with the same routine until the toilet overflows. With no choice, she calls a plumber. Wes arrives and proves to be chatty, sweet, and a saxophone player. Their exchanges lead her to think about changing her repetitive life.

- Sparrows Dance was initially going to star Martha Plimpton and John Ortiz, but Plimpton left when her TV show Raising Hope was picked up. Ortiz suggested Marin Ireland, then dropped out after being cast in HBO's Luck, and Paul Sparks was cast instead.
- Paul Sparks based his performance as Wes, the saxophone-playing plumber with stage fright, on comedian Mitch Hedberg, who also suffered from stage fright.
- Noah Buschel shot Sparrows Dance in a 4:3 aspect ratio to keep Marin Ireland front and center and emphasize her closed-off life. Many scenes play out in long takes, which is a main reason he cast actors with theater experience.
