Plot summary
Gar Seberg, a former Olympic skiing champion, and his wife Ellen come back to his hometown in the Colorado Rockies, a ski resort preparing for its annual Snow Carnival, and Gar looks for work. Vacationers have disappeared, and witnesses describe a Yeti or Sasquatch. Resort owner Carrie Rill worries about business and keeps the news quiet, while Sheriff Paraday tells the town a savage bear is loose. Carrie's grandson Tony hires Gar and asks him to track and kill the creature. Ellen once worked on a television documentary about Sasquatch sightings, so Gar keeps an open mind about what is out there, though he is unwilling to hunt it.
