Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Sliver (1993)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Sliver ran into such a battle with the MPAA, which originally gave it an NC-17 rating, that the filmmakers were forced to make extensive reshoots before release - changes drastic enough that the killer's identity had to be changed.
- Stone later said producer Robert Evans pressured her to actually sleep with co-star Baldwin during filming, arguing they would then have chemistry onscreen and that it would save the movie. She refused, and Baldwin later attacked her account on social media by asking if she still had a crush on him.
SPOILER
Shooting that original volcano finale actually crashed the helicopter being used, and an investigation temporarily suspended the pilot's certificate; the ending was then rewritten because test audiences disliked Carly's turn toward complicity in the killer's crimes.SPOILER
In Sliver's original ending, Zeke Hawkins (William Baldwin) rather than Jack Landsford (Tom Berenger) was revealed as the killer: he marries Carly Norris (Sharon Stone), and on their honeymoon she tells him, mid-flight over a Hawaiian volcano, that she knows what he did.- To avoid an NC-17 rating, director Phillip Noyce said he had to make 110 separate edits to Sliver, all of them aimed at removing shots of male frontal nudity.
- The fictional sliver skyscraper was played by Morgan Court, a real 32-floor building put up in 1985 at 211 Madison Avenue in New York; the crew used the building's courtyard, but the lobby was a Los Angeles film set.
