Plot summary
In Mumbai, Uma is given in marriage to Gopal, a coward and a slacker, and they live in a slum house. It is an arranged match, and the marriage is unhappy. Uma is dragged into it rather than seeking it, and chaotic events come with it. She begins to change, becoming feral and ruthless and acting on her wildest impulses.
