Plot summary
Mallory Dearborn is a best-selling mystery writer whose detective series has run for years. She has chosen to bring the series to a close and give her time to personal matters. Michael, her manager, is against it. He needs a large sum of money. He holds her captive and makes the world think she has died. He wants a new novel from her, one that can appear after her death. She spends the holidays writing it.
