Plot summary
Brian Godlock is an electrician in Las Palomas, Texas. He lives with his wife Saya and their young son Taylor Michael. On Christmas Eve, father and son are caught in the middle of a gang war, and a drive-by shooting kills the boy. Brian goes after the gunmen, and Playa, who leads one of the gangs, fires into his throat and leaves him for dead. Brian survives, but the damage to his vocal cords leaves him unable to speak. Grieving, he becomes cold and withdrawn and fixes on revenge, planning to strike at the gang on the next Christmas Eve and spending the year building his body and training in self-defense and weapons. Saya tries to support him as he recovers.

- A special effects assistant was hurt during pre-production on Silent Night in Mexico City in March 2022, hit by a car during a stunt trial run; he broke his femur and dislocated his shoulder.
- Joel Kinnaman tried method acting for the first time on Silent Night, staying silent for the whole shoot. The lack of communication left him lonely, and the silent car ride to his first day on set was long enough to get him excited for the film.
- Because the budget and schedule were tight, John Woo changed his working style on Silent Night: instead of shooting coverage as he would on a studio movie, he combined scenes without any coverage shots and forced himself to use a new technique.
- Silent Night marked John Woo's return to American filmmaking: it was his first American feature as director since Paycheck in 2003, a gap of twenty years.
