Plot summary
Sierra Burgess is a smart, unpopular student at her high school who is trying to get into Stanford. Veronica, a popular classmate, insults her, and Sierra answers with wit. Jamey is a football player at another high school who asks Veronica for her phone number. Veronica has a boyfriend in college, so she gives Jamey Sierra's number instead. Jamey and Sierra begin texting and then flirting. Sierra knows Jamey thinks he is writing to someone else, and she finds herself drawn to him.
