Plot summary
Kimberly's father is about to buy an abandoned ski resort on Mount Rocky Summit, and she is driving up with her boyfriend Cole, her cousin Pike and their friends Skyler, Robyn and Kirk. At a gas station the group meets Christophe, a European traveler, and invites him along. In town, Cole and Skyler hear a bartender named Bud warn them off the resort, and Skyler meets Bud's daughter Shelly. Back at the lodge the friends drink until the town sheriff appears; Kimberly and Robyn talk him into letting them stay the night. Kimberly tells the others that snowboarders killed a young girl at the resort years earlier, which is why it shut down. On the mountain, a snowboarder has already been attacked by a skier dressed in black.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Shredder (2001)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Director and co-screenwriter Gregory Huson got the idea for a slasher film set at a ski resort after a 1995 blizzard left him snowed in overnight at Iron Mountain resort near Kirkwood in the Sierra Nevada, shortly before the resort shut permanently.
- After scouting smaller ski areas throughout the northwest, the producers chose Silver Mountain, whose original lodge, once known as Jackass ridge, was still standing but effectively abandoned; the resort was then open only three days a week and closed to the public Monday to Friday, a working ski resort standing in for the film's abandoned one.
- In spite of record snows earlier in the season, rising temperatures and rain during filming melted a significant amount of snow mid-way through the schedule, and the producers hired twenty local ski and snowboard doubles.
