Plot summary

Five classmates, Nolan, Bess, Reggie, Queenie and Karl, set out on a school outing aboard a bus driven by Joseph. Karl needles Queenie, Nolan shows an interest in Bess, and Reggie sits apart at the back. Joseph poses a riddle about seven letters and a virtue they need. A fallen tree blocks the road, so he takes another route. On it, Joseph steps out to drag a dead deer aside. When he climbs back aboard, escaped convict Pedro Minghella is waiting with a gun and seizes the bus, ordering the group to toss their phones out. The drive ends in a tunnel, where the engine quits. Pedro threatens Queenie unless Joseph tries to fix it. Then the tunnel's lights die, and the headlights pick out a strange shape ahead.
