Plot summary
Ben Tagawa dropped out of film school and now runs an arthouse theater in Berkeley, where he lives with his girlfriend Miko, who is employed by an Asian American film festival. He has little patience for her politics or for the community that festival serves. At the theater he takes on Autumn as a ticket seller. Miko accuses him of a preference for white women after finding pornography on his computer; he denies it and tries to dismiss her concerns. That argument seems settled until Miko announces an internship in New York City. Ben talks the news over with Alice, his closest friend, who dates women but keeps things casual and flirts with a waitress named Nina. When Ben telephones Miko in New York and belittles her interests, she suggests a break.
