Plot summary
A traveling carnival sideshow sets up in town, and Jade Cochran, a cynical waitress in a rundown cafe, agrees to a second job carrying meals to the show's workers. She wants money and a way out of her old life, and she leaves the cafe behind for the carnival's excitement. On the lot she becomes friendly with Pat, a stripper, and with Steve St. John, who owns the carnival and oversees its freakshow exhibit. Steve's wealth is what interests Jade, and she begins courting him with marriage in mind. What she cannot abide are the freaks and human oddities the exhibit puts on display.
