Plot summary

Fallbrook Middle School lets its students pick a Teacher of the Year, and for 43 straight years the winner has been Norman Warner, known around the school as Stormin' Norman. When Norman dies at the award ceremony, the job of keeping the streak falls to his son Matt, a biology teacher in the same building who has never matched his father's standing with the students. The new history teacher is Michael D'Angelo, a Fallbrook graduate whose lessons and manner quickly make him the students' favorite, and everyone calls him Mr. D. Matt, set on keeping the Warner name on the award, works to discredit the newcomer. His son Dylan, a grade 8 student, is trying to win over Chase, the head cheerleader.
