Plot summary
Xu Yuan owns an electronics shop and makes a plain living from it, though his family is known for expertise in ancient relics. He wants to be judged apart from an ancestor who was executed for treason after a Chinese artifact went to Japan. The Xu are one of the Five Vessels, an old authority in the relics trade. Miss Kido, from Japan, intends to hand back a Tang Dynasty Buddha head from Wu Zetian's Mingtang, and says a Xu descendant should receive it. Huang Yanyan, granddaughter of the Five Vessels' head, asks Xu Yuan to take on the matter. Yao Buran, a prodigy of the same circle, presses him, and a stranger, Lao Zhaofeng, follows him.
