Plot summary
In the third century BC, during China's Warring States period, the armies of Liang and Wey meet in battle. A Liang foot soldier survives by playing dead, with a device shaped like an arrowhead strapped to his body to make the trick convincing. He and a wounded Wey general are the only men left alive. The soldier has been trying to leave the army since he was conscripted, and he binds the general and sets out for home, planning to hand him over to the king of Liang in return for honorable discharge and a peaceful life. His captive, though wounded, looks down on him, and the two argue as they travel.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Jackie Chan had wanted to make a comedic film set against a historical background since the 1980s, and Little Big Soldier ended up in production for more than 20 years before it was made.
- Jackie Chan first had Daniel Wu in mind for the young general but dropped the idea because he had already made two films with Wu; he rejected his wife Joan Lin's suggestion of their son Jaycee Chan, then agreed immediately when Lin suggested Leehom Wang.
