A Taoist priest slays a giant manta ray and declares the demon dead; Tang Sanzang, who calls himself a demon hunter, says the animal was not the one, so the villagers string him up. The creature returns, and Sanzang, freed, drives it onto the bank with the survivors. It becomes a man, and he sings to it from a book of nursery rhymes, the method his master taught him.
