Plot summary
Anna Battista is a 24-year-old Italian-born actress with a popular international career. After working in Rome and winning a film award in Milan, she wants to shed her boy-toy image and be taken seriously as an artist, so she sets out to write and direct a semi-biographical film about herself called Scarlet Diva. In Paris she tries to help her best friend leave an abusive relationship. In Los Angeles a film producer proves shady rather than useful. Alongside her plans runs a chaotic stretch of excess, drugs and sex that carries her between Europe and America, and her own appetites and the indifference of the people around her stand in the way of what she wants.
