Plot summary
Bethany Pruitt is eighteen and has finished the home schooling her mother June gave her. She wants to go away to college, and June wants her at home, where June can keep her. June home-schooled her children, and they are estranged from her; she does not see herself as the cause. June's own mother, Grandma Pruitt, is as overbearing with June as June is with Bethany. Rather than stay, Bethany goes to live with her father, whose boyfriend, Chip Hardy, is much younger than he is. Chip and Bethany form a bond. Dale Pinto is a divorced father who owns a car lot and stays close to his children.
