Plot summary
The Israelites live under Philistine rule, and Samson lives under a Nazirite covenant with God that calls him to deliver his people from that oppression. A Hebrew of the tribe of Dan, he has a strength beyond that of other men. His parents, Manoah and Zealphonis, urge him to fight back, since he was chosen for this from birth, but he prefers peace. King Balek orders his son, Prince Rallah, to investigate, and Rallah bribes a Philistine lord to stage a fight that will draw Samson out. Samson comes to the fight, beats the strongman and notices Taren, the lord's daughter. The two fall in love and want to marry, and Rallah's concubine Delilah persuades him to let the marriage happen so that Samson can be controlled.
