Plot summary
Isaiah Bone, a martial artist, former marine and ex-con, takes a room at a boardinghouse in Los Angeles run by Tamara. One night he watches an underground bout featuring the local champion Hammerman, then strikes a deal with a promoter named Pinball: twenty percent of his earnings, or forty if Pinball risks his own money. Bone wins his first fight with two kicks. That same night he meets the mob boss James and James's girlfriend, Angela Soto. Pinball tells him that James set Angela's husband Danny up on a triple homicide and sent him to prison, and that Angela has become addicted to drugs since. Bone keeps winning, and he grows close to Tamara, her adopted son Jared, and an elderly man, Roberto.
