1. A change of course

   As a young adult, Kulich lived in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and while he was there he played ice hockey as a professional.

2. First role

   Kulich got his first paid acting work in a low-budget Czech film, playing a boy who cries because his balloon is gone.

3. Big break

   Producers from 21 Jump Street booked a rafting trip with Kulich's company one weekend and were impressed by his unique look. They offered him a small part on an episode, and he played a doorman who spoke one word of welcome.

4. Getting ready for a role

   Kulich had never ridden a horse before he played Buliwyf, a character based loosely on the mythical hero Beowulf, and he naturally took to the role.

5. Getting ready for a role

   For his role as The Beast on Angel, Kulich wore a fiberglass bodysuit weighing about 50 pounds that took an hour to put on, plus makeup and prosthetics that required four hours to apply.

6. Languages

   Kulich's most memorable early appearance was on The X-Files, as the only crewmember of a ship unaffected by supernatural circumstances. He learned lines in Norwegian for the episode, which he called his first truly rewarding production experience.
