Vivian Blaine
Biography
Vivian Blaine was an American actress and singer who worked in musical theater, film and television. Born in Newark, New Jersey, she was appearing on local stages by 1934 and toured after finishing high school. She signed with Twentieth Century-Fox in 1942 and moved to Hollywood, where she took top billing opposite Laurel and Hardy in Jitterbugs (1943) and starred in State Fair (1945). She originated Miss Adelaide in the Broadway musical Guys and Dolls and repeated the role in the film Guys and Dolls (1955). Her other Broadway shows included A Hatful of Rain, Say, Darling, Enter Laughing, Company and Zorba, and she toured in Light Up the Sky and Gypsy. At the 1971 Tony Awards she sang Adelaide's Lament from Guys and Dolls. On television she guest starred on Fantasy Island and The Love Boat and had a recurring role in Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, and her last screen appearance came on Murder, She Wrote.
