Valerie Curtin

Born in New York City, Valerie Curtin is an American actress and screenwriter who started out performing with comedy groups and in theatrical productions there before moving to Los Angeles in 1971. She began writing for television on The Mary Tyler Moore Show in the 1970s. With Barry Levinson, she co-wrote ...And Justice for All (1979), earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen. Their script for Best Friends (1982) followed. As an actress, her first film was Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974). She appeared in Silent Movie (1976) and Silver Streak (1976), and later in Maxie (1985) and Big Trouble (1986). On television, she guest-starred in shows such as Happy Days and The Rockford Files, and she played Judy Bernly in the sitcom 9 to 5, returning for its syndicated version from 1986 to 1988. Her later writing credits include Toys (1992).
