Plot summary
In the future the state outlaws pregnancy, creates babies in laboratories and sorts every child into one of five classes. Citizens are expected to have loveless sex and to take narcotics that keep the population content. Most accept this order, among them Thomas Grambell, who supervises the hatcheries, but a growing resistance gathers around Bernard Marx, a malcontent. Bernard and his girlfriend Lenina Disney travel to a primitive reservation that holds to 20th-century values, and there they meet a native named John, known as the Savage. They bring him back to civilization, where his presence upends conventional thinking and makes him a celebrity. John has educated himself with banned works, Shakespeare among them, and his parents came from the advanced world he now enters, whose ways he struggles to accept.
