Tony Robinson
Biography
Tony Robinson is an English actor, author and broadcaster who became prominent for playing Baldrick in the BBC sitcom Blackadder. Born in Homerton, London, he trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama after first acting as a child in the original production of Oliver! and later spent four years in repertory theater. Early screen work included the film Brannigan (1975) and the Channel 4 comedy series Who Dares Wins. He wrote and narrated children's programs such as Tales From Fat Tulip's Garden, created Maid Marian and her Merry Men and appeared as the Sheriff of Nottingham, and returned to Baldrick for Blackadder: Back & Forth (1999). He voiced characters in the Discworld videogame and appeared in the television adaptation Hogfather (2006). He also presented many history documentaries, notably Time Team and The Worst Jobs in History, and has written 16 children's books.

First role
Robinson began acting at 13, appearing in Fagin's band in the original staging of the musical Oliver!, and he even filled in as the Artful Dodger when the boy in that part did not show up.
Behind the camera
Robinson received an Arts Council bursary that let him direct at the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham. With writer David Illingworth, he started the Avon Touring Company, a community theater group in Bristol.
Early training
Robinson was too young for the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, so in 1963 he joined the Central School of Speech and Drama, where he studied until he graduated in 1966.
A first
In 1994 Robinson started presenting Time Team, a TV show about archaeological digs that were capped at three days. It ran for 20 years and featured 59 one-off specials.
