Togo Igawa

Biography

Togo Igawa, born in Tokyo in 1946, is a Japanese actor who has spent much of his career in British theater, film and television. He set up the Black Tent Theatre company in Japan and later relocated to Britain, where in 1986 he became the Royal Shakespeare Company's first Japanese member. His screen credits include The Last Samurai (2003), Memoirs of a Geisha (2005) and Johnny English Reborn (2011), in which he played English's Tibetan guru. He provided voices for Robotboy as Professor Moshimo and for the Thomas & Friends franchise as Hiro, starting with Hero of the Rails in 2009. His television work includes The IT Crowd, Doctor Who, The Crown and the BBC series Giri/Haji, which he joined in 2019. He was nominated for a BAFTA in 2012 for Total War: Shogun 2, and in 2023 he appeared in Tetris as Hiroshi Yamauchi.
