Plot summary

An American orphan, Casey Bowman grows up in a Japanese dojo under Sensei Takeda, whose daughter Namiko becomes his friend. The dojo's best student, Masazuka, resents that friendship. In a sparring match Masazuka throws a katana at Casey, and Casey's defense leaves a scar under Masazuka's right eye; Takeda expels Masazuka from the dojo. Years later Masazuka works as an assassin for Temple Industries, which also runs an underground cult called The Ring, and he comes back to the dojo to claim the succession as sōke. Takeda refuses him. Expecting an attack, Takeda gives Casey and Namiko the Yoroi Bitsu, an old chest in which the armor and weapons of a Koga ninja are kept. The two carry it to New York City, where Takeda's friend Professor Garrison stores it in a university vault.
